Changes to development application notification and exhibition
From 1 September 2026, a new statewide Community Participation Plan (CPP) applies to the planning system across NSW.
The NSW Government has introduced the CPP to ensure consultation with the community is clear and consistent across the state. As part of the introduction of this plan, there are now several development types that do not require public exhibition where the development meets certain criteria. This means that for some development applications, Council will no longer notify neighbouring properties in accordance with the CPP.
What does this mean for our community?
Some applications that would previously have been notified may now be assessed without public exhibition or neighbour notification. It is important to note that this is a result of the new state-wide requirements in the CPP and is not a change made directly by Yass Valley Council. Council is obligated to comply with the requirements within the CPP.
These applications will, however, continue to be assessed by Council in accordance with relevant planning legislation and controls. Potential impacts of any proposal on surrounding properties and the broader community will still be assessed.
We will continue to keep the Yass Valley community informed about planning matters and provide opportunities for community participation where required under the new statewide framework.
