Financial Sustainability Forum 7 October 2026
Council made a clear commitment to the community in November 2025 to explore all available options for achieving long-term financial sustainability before making any decision on a Special Rate Variation (SRV).
Over the past 12 months, Council has undertaken a comprehensive review of its revenue, expenditure, cash position, service delivery, growth forecasts, property portfolio and infrastructure condition.
This work has confirmed that Yass Valley Council faces a significant long-term financial challenge requiring a timely and sustainable response. To support this work, Council engaged Australian Economic Consultants (AEC) to undertake a financial sustainability review. The outcomes of this review will help Councillors and community to understand Council’s current financial position, the pressures faced and the options available to address them.
AEC will now present a range of scenarios to Councillors to consider, including potential changes to service levels, Special Rate Variation options and infrastructure standards. The presentation will be held at 4.00 pm on 7 October at the Crago Mill Precinct Council Chambers, 209 Comur Street, Yass.
While the primary purpose of the forum is for AEC to present its findings to Councillors, the session will be open to the public. Community members can attend in person, watch the livestream or view a recording of the forum presentation.
