New Waste Transfer Site Fees

New waste disposal fees will come into effect at Yass Valley’s waste transfer sites from 1 July 2025.

The updated fees reflect the whole-of-life cost of waste processing, which has increased significantly over the past year. Landfill disposal costs have risen by more than 60%, and the new fees for both general and green waste take this into account.

Green Waste Fees

A new sliding-scale of domestic green waste charges will be introduced to give clearer pricing for the wide range of green waste loads that come through our sites – from small to large cars, trailers and utes. This new structure means staff can charge based on actual load size rather than estimating volume, making the process simpler and fairer for everyone - and reflective of the actual cost to remove the green waste from site.

Green waste fees have been proportionally calculated across small, medium and large loads based on the metre-cubed price in the Council’s 2025–26 Fees and Charges. This sliding scale is designed to make pricing more consistent and transparent for all customers.

Supporting Our Waste Transfer Staff

Council acknowledges the ongoing hard work of our waste transfer staff, who play an important role in helping the community manage waste responsibly. With the introduction of the new fees – especially for green waste – our staff will be on the front line managing the changes.

Measuring waste loads can be tricky given the variety of vehicle sizes and load types. We kindly ask all site users to treat staff with respect - and please speak to them if you need help working out your load size before unloading.

We are also updating our computer payment system - we appreciate your patience whilst we update the system to be able to process your payments quickly and efficiently.

Green Bins

Council is also continuing to investigate how to introduce green bin collections across the Yass Valley. Staff are currently investigating options and hope to present recommendations for Council to consider in the near future.
