ROAD CLOSURE

Montem Street, Bowning Road Closure Update

Montem Street, Bowning remains closed between Silver Street and Short Street following investigations into the impact of recent wet weather on the roads structural integrity.

Engineering assessment has confirmed that the culvert crossing beneath the road is past its serviceable life and currently is in poor structural condition and therefore, can no longer safely support normal traffic without major intervention.

As a permanent solution, Council will need to replace the entire crossing which is a significant capital works project that will require detailed engineering design, environmental approvals, replacement of the culvert structure and roadway, and assessment of any impacts on the adjacent pedestrian bridge.

Council is currently investigating whether any temporary measures can be implemented in the interim with load limits to safely restore access for local traffic. However, given the condition of the structure, the potential consequences of failure, and Council's obligation to ensure public safety, the road may need to remain closed until the crossing has been fully replaced.

At this stage, there is no confirmed timeframe for reopening the road. Appropriate traffic management and signage remain in place, and access to private properties will continue to be via alternative routes.

Council appreciates the patience and understanding of residents and road users while investigations and planning continue. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Montem Street, Bowning is closed between Silver Street and Short Street due to the impact the wet weather has had on the structural integrity of the road. Further investigation and repair will be on-going and updates provided.

Appropriate signage will be placed on the road and access to private properties will be maintained.
