This month’s council meeting highlights included a submission on Waste to Energy Inquiry (Tarago incinerator), participation in Council committees, update on the Delivery and Operational Plans, and Council Code of Conduct policy.

Members of the general public spoke in Open Forum for and against the DA’s for 46 Malbec Drive, Murrumbateman and for a shed at 32 South Street, Murrumbateman.

Here’s a quick run-down of what you need to know:
Mayoral Minutes
  • Submission to Waste to Energy NSW Legislative Assembly Parliamentary Inquiry - Council maintained its strong objection to the ‘Waste to Energy’ proposals for our area, notably the Woodland Advanced Recovery Centre in Tarago. This is in support of the surrounding community’s health and wellbeing, and also the unacceptable risk of smoke taint to the local viticulture/winemaking economy. Council will make a submission to the Inquiry and will continue to advocate for government representation on this matter. Council also encourages the local community to ‘Have their Say’ by making their submissions available on the Parliament of NSW website.
DA’s
  • 46 Malbec Drive, Murrumbateman, Dwelling - Conditional DA was issued subject to a revised landscape plan that better protects the character and amenity of the neighbourhood.
  • 32 South St, Murrumbateman, Shed - consent was issued.

  • Update on the 2022-2025 Delivery Program and 2025/26 Operational Plan - Council was given an update on the progress of Council projects and objectives - full details can be found in the attachments. In response to many community requests for grading and gravel work on our rural unsealed roads, Council committed to hold a Councillor workshop to discuss road budget and priorities 2025/26.
  • Updated Guidelines for Advisory Committees and Committees of Council - A number of guidelines and terms of reference have been proposed for Council’s Advisory Committees including Economic Development, Crago Mill, Yass Water Treatment Plant, First Nations, Access and Age-Friendly, Sport and Open Space, Murrumbateman Recreation Grounds Focus Group, Murrumbateman Pump Track and Yass Pool. Council committed to embed sustainability principles into terms of reference for all the advisory committees. The guidelines are now up for Public Consultation for 28 days, and your views are invited. Council will be calling for a number of community members to join these committees and expression of interest will be available soon. More details to follow.
