New Bookham Playground Officially Open!

Community celebrates launch of the new Bookham Playground!

The sky was grey and the rain was falling, but even the adverse weather conditions did not put a dampener on the festivities in Bookham this weekend. The community was out in full force to celebrate the official opening of the new Bookham playground, enjoy a sizzling snag and have a play on the new equipment – strictly children only!

The Bookham Playground built on Yass Valley Council land with substantial funding from Squadron Energy, together with grants from Bango Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund and Coppabella Windfarm Community Fund awarded to the Bookham Community Association.

Through the combined efforts of the major funders, Yass Valley Council’s Recreational Projects Team, the Bookham Community Association and Ruralmain, a local contractor, the playground was completed on time and within budget.

Director of Planning & Environment, Andrew Neil was in attendance for the opening of the playground and said,

“This project is a testament to collaboration, and a shining example of what can be achieved when councils and communities work together to provide for residents in our region.”

The new playground provides much-needed recreational facilities for local children and families, creating a welcoming space for play, connection and community life. Andrew Neil added,

“This playground supports Bookham’s vision to become a healthy, vibrant hub along the Hume Highway, giving residents and visitors a place to stop, enjoy the outdoors and experience the village. As a family-friendly attraction, the playground enhances Bookham’s appeal to travellers, increasing the opportunity to showcase the wider Yass Valley region.”

The work didn’t end there. Thanks to a HumeLink Community Grant, a footpath construction project will commence later in the year and provide much needed pedestrian connectivity through the village. The footpath was adopted as part of the Yass Valley Council Bookham Masterplan and will provide a safer pedestrian link between public amenities and enhance local and visitor experience in Bookham village.
