Enjoy more fun in the water this summer!

Yass Valley residents will have more time to enjoy the water this summer, with Yass Valley Council announcing an extended swimming season and hours at Yass Memorial Swimming Pool and extended hours at Binalong swimming pool.

Following a detailed Service Level Review of Yass and Binalong Memorial Swimming Pools, prepared by Council Community Spaces team, Council resolved at its July meeting to trial this pilot proposal of an extended swimming season and longer opening hours.

The 2026–27 swimming season will run from 12 October 2026 to 7 May 2027, this represents an additional eight weeks compared to last year’s season

The program has been made possible following significant investment in pool heating infrastructure, helping to improve comfort and create greater opportunities for swimming and aquatic activities outside the traditional summer months.

Yass Swimming Club played a key role in securing grants through the NSW Government’s Club grants initiative, funding the installation of heating equipment at Yass Memorial Swimming Pool, which was completed in January 2026. Installation of 3 shade structures with solar panels were also installed during the off season.

Binalong Memorial Swimming Pool has also received solar heating equipment through the TransGrid Community Investment & Benefits Program. Installation is currently underway and is expected to be completed in August 2026.

Yass Valley Council CEO Gayleen Burley said, “This program is a fantastic result for our community, providing residents with more opportunities to swim, exercise and participate in aquatic programs. We look forward to seeing the community make the most of these valued facilities throughout the 2026–27 season.”

Ms  Burley continued, “Both Yass and Binalong Memorial Swimming Pools provide significant social, recreational and health benefits to the Yass Valley community. They support physical activity, water safety education and social participation for people of all ages and abilities, while helping to promote healthy lifestyles and community wellbeing.”

The extended season is a pilot program for 2026–27, allowing Council the opportunity to assess demand and the benefits of longer operating hours to better inform future considerations for our swimming pools.
