Yass Swimming Club, together with Yass Valley Council and local member Wendy Tuckerman MP, officially opened the new heating system at Yass Memorial Swimming Pool, made possible through a $297,290 grant from the NSW Government's Clubgrants Category 3 Infrastructure Grant programme.

The installation of heat pumps will allow the pool to open earlier in spring and close later in autumn, extending next year's swimming season and providing greater comfort for swimmers of all ages and abilities.

Yass Valley Mayor Jasmin Jones acknowledged and thanked the Yass Swim Club for its contribution to the project, notably the successful grant application to upgrade assets within the pool complex for the benefit of the local community.

Yass Swimming Club President Hugh Rainger said the project represented a significant step forward for aquatic facilities in the region.

"This heating system means next year our pool can open earlier and stay open longer. Older residents have a comfortable space for gentle exercise and social connection, families can swim together on those cooler autumn evenings, and our community gets more value from this wonderful facility," Mr Rainger said.

"We are incredibly grateful to the NSW Government for this investment in our community."

Head Coach Donna Wullaert said the warmer water for the 2027 season would open up new opportunities for swimmers of all levels.

"For our learn to swim children, comfortable water temperature makes all the difference. They stay in the water longer, they are more relaxed and they progress faster," Mrs Wullaert said.

"An extended season means more time in the water for everyone, from beginners through to our squad swimmers. This is a wonderful step in the right direction for swimming in Yass."

The project was funded by the Office of Responsible Gambling through the Clubgrants Category 3 Infrastructure Grant programme, which supports sporting and recreational infrastructure across New South Wales.
