Notice of Extraordinary Council Meeting - 12 Nov

Yass Valley Council will hold an Extraordinary Meeting of Council on Wednesday, 12 November 2025

This meeting will consider the implementation of a community consultation process regarding a proposed Special Rate Variation (SRV) to secure the necessary funding to maintain current service levels and address essential infrastructure needs across the Yass Valley.

Community feedback is a vital part of the SRV application process. It ensures residents are provided with clear and comprehensive information about the SRV options and their potential impacts.

As part of Yass Valley Council’s Financial Sustainability Roadmap - which outlines the financial challenges, Council’s vision, and our path to long-term financial sustainability - one of the agreed objectives is to investigate an SRV.

To meet the financial sustainability benchmarks set by the Office of Local Government (OLG) and ensure responsible governance of Yass Valley Council, an SRV is one of several levers that Council must consider to improve our long-term financial viability.

Members of the public are welcome to attend. The meeting will be held at 4.00pm on Wednesday, 12 November, in the Meitner Room at Yass High School.

For information, the process timeline is as follows: 

• 12 November 2025 – Extraordinary Council Meeting requesting SRV modelling be placed on public exhibition and commence community engagement activities.
• 13 November 2025 – 10 December 2025 – Public exhibition period and community consultation.
• January 2026 (date to be confirmed) – Extraordinary Council Meeting in January 2026, plus Report to Council outlining community engagement outcomes and decision on whether to proceed with formal SRV application to IPART.
• Subject to January 2026 Council meeting -a SRV proposal may be presented to IPART by 2nd February, 2026.
