Celebrating NAIDOC Week in the Yass Valley

Yass Valley Council is proud to support and celebrate 50 years of the NAIDOC vision with a community event for NAIDOC Week 2025 to honour our younger generations.

The theme this year recognises the achievements of the past while looking forward to the future, particularly honouring the strength of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders and the legacy passed down through generations.

We warmly invite all members of the community to attend our official opening of NAIDOC Week on Monday, 7 July at 10.00am, at Yass Soldiers Memorial Hall.

The morning will begin with a traditional smoking ceremony, followed by a community morning tea. We are honoured to welcome local Elders to join us in celebration and encourage residents of all ages to come along and join the occasion.

Inside the Hall, there will be a special display of Indigenous artwork, including a live art activity hosted by one of our talented local Indigenous artists. To celebrate our younger generations, children will be invited to colour in the artwork, and local preschools have been invited to attend and take part in the activities.

In the lead-up to NAIDOC Week, NAIDOC flags will be installed along the main street to help mark the occasion.

This year’s NAIDOC Week activities, held from 6-13 July, have been made possible through the support of a dedicated NAIDOC Week grant, and we are grateful for the opportunity to bring these celebrations for our community.

We hope to see many of you at Memorial Hall to help us honour the milestone of 50 years of the NAIDOC vision.
