Council brings forward improvement works for Marked Tree Road

Yass Valley Council is bringing forward planned improvement works on Marked Tree Road, with maintenance grading and gravel resheeting to be delivered as a coordinated package to improve the road’s condition and provide better value for the community.

Following a recent site inspection, Council has acknowledged that sections of Marked Tree Road are currently in poor condition and require maintenance grading.

Council is preparing a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for the planned gravel resheeting works, targeted for release in early September 2026. The procurement process has been brought forward from the previously proposed timeframe of early 2027, with the aim of commencing the works as soon as practicable.

The maintenance grading has been delayed while Council works to coordinate the grading with the planned resheeting works. By delivering the two activities as a combined package, Council can maximise the use of available resources and funding, improve efficiency and achieve a more sustainable outcome for road users.

The works will include gravel resheeting of approximately five kilometres of Marked Tree Road, between the sealed road end and the Beralston Road intersection. Council is also engaging an external contractor to undertake grading works on both Marked Tree Road and Beralston Road.

The project has been allocated $520,000 in the 2026/27 financial year, with Council seeking to expedite the procurement process and commence the improvement works as soon as practicable.

Yass Valley Council Chief Executive Officer Gayleen Burley said Council recognised the concerns raised by residents and appreciated the community’s ongoing advocacy regarding Marked Tree Road.

“We understand the frustration of residents who use Marked Tree Road and have raised concerns about its condition over a long period of time,” Gayleen Burley said.

“Following our recent site inspection, we acknowledge that some sections require attention, and we are working to progress the necessary works as quickly as practicable.

“By combining the maintenance grading with the planned gravel resheeting, Council can make the best use of the funding and resources available while delivering a more substantial and sustainable improvement to the road.”

Council continues to actively pursue external grant funding opportunities to support capital works, major repairs and road rehabilitation across the broader road network.

Reporting issues through these channels ensures they can be formally recorded, assessed and referred to the appropriate Council team for follow-up.
