Yass Valley Council Nominated for Excellence Awards

Yass Valley Council is pleased to announce that we have been shortlisted in not one, but two Excellence Awards!
Library Award
The Yass Valley Library has been nominated for the 2026 Excellence Awards from the Southern NSW Local Health District, within the "Health Promoting Libraries Framework Project". The award is for the contribution the Library Services make to patients, colleagues and the wider community. The award is in recognition of a "NSW Healthy Ageing Talk" the library hosted as part of the Seniors' Festival earlier this year.
Being nominated is a significant achievement and reflects the impact of the work and services, as well as the respect of those who submitted nominations. Our new state-of-the-art library is a great asset to the community, and Council is pleased the library team and the service they provide are getting the recognition they deserve. The winners will be announced on Wednesday 17 June. Well done to everyone involved, and good luck!
2026 NSW Local Government Excellence Awards
Yass Valley Council is a Finalist at the 2026 NSW Local Government Excellence Awards in the Special Project Initiative (population under 100,000) category for our ‘Workplace Change Proposal’. The proposal focused on the restructuring of the organisation to ensure Council remains strong, financially responsible and able to continue delivering quality services and infrastructure.
The key aims of the restructure are to:
- Improve our core service delivery
- Strengthen financial management and long-term sustainability
- Make better use of our resources and work more efficiently
- Provide clearer accountability and role clarity
- Ensure our structure supports operational needs within our approved budget
The new structure has been designed to be flexible, scalable and consistent, supporting collaboration across teams and strengthening shared leadership. This will help ensure Council is well positioned to meet the evolving needs of our community.
The Local Government Professionals Awards are the ultimate celebration of groundbreaking projects and visionary leaders making a difference in our communities. They shine a spotlight on the extraordinary contributions of local government professionals and the innovation driving change across the sector. The winners will be announced on Thursday 4 June.
