Makedo Launch - Bird is the Word

Mon 28 September 10:30am AGES 5-12

Be the first to take part in our community installation for Bird Month!

Using our Makedo tools and cardboard create a unique articulating bird to add to our wall. This art display is in celebration of our Citizen Science bird month and will be up for the whole month of October. Share your creativity with our community!

Participants will also be making mini birds to take home

Dinosaur Trackways Workshop

Tues 29 September 10:30am AGE 9+

Become a dinosaur detective!

Join palaeontologist Sally Hurst and discover how scientists use dinosaur footprints and fossils to uncover clues about the prehistoric past. Learn what footprints can tell us about how dinosaurs moved, how big they were, and even how they may have behaved. This fun, hands-on workshop gives you the chance to ask Sally all your fossil and dinosaur questions, get up close to real dinosaur fossils and other fascinating specimens, and explore the exciting world of palaeontology.

Get hands-on with the prehistoric past!

Explore and interact with real fossils from around the world and discover what they can tell us about life millions of years ago. With palaeontologist Sally Hurst on hand, you can ask all your burning questions about fossils, dinosaurs and the incredible creatures that once roamed our planet.

Touch real fossils, uncover ancient stories and become a palaeontology expert for the afternoon!

Space and Dinosaurs Public Talk

What connects the stars above us, the dinosaurs that once walked the Earth, and every one of us?

Join archaeologist Sally Hurst and astrophysicist Jack Nibbs for Space & Dinosaurs: The Cosmic Journey of You - a fascinating, all-ages presentation exploring the incredible story of our universe, our planet, prehistoric life and ultimately… you. Travel across billions of years as Sally and Jack connect two extraordinary areas of science, from the formation of stars and planets to the ancient life that shaped our world.

Finish with a live Q&A and ask your biggest questions about space, dinosaurs and beyond! 

Bottle Rockets Physics Activity

Wed 30 September 2pm AGE 10+

Launch into the end of the first week of school holidays with a Bottle Rockets Physics Activity with astrophysicist Jack Nibbs!

Discover the science behind rockets as you explore forces, motion, pressure and propulsion through a fun, hands-on experiment. Participants will build and decorate their very own bottle rocket before heading outside to see just how high it can fly!

It’s the perfect activity for curious minds, combining creativity, science and plenty of excitement. Come along, make a rocket, make some predictions, and see whose design can reach for the sky!

Family Movie at the Library

Come along to the Yass Valley Library to enjoy a Family Movie starring Hugh Jackman, Bella Ramsey, Emma Thompson and so many more for this fun, quirky, and bizBAAAA flick.

Mini Clay Cacti Pots

Fri 2 October 1pm AGE 12+

During this fun 3-hour session, participants will learn essential clay modelling skills, including conditioning, colour mixing, marbling, texturing, and shaping techniques.
They will create miniature cacti, succulents, soil elements, and decorative posts, then assemble them into their own unique miniature cactus garden. No experience is required, and all materials, tools, and baking instructions are provided.

Participants will take home their own little cactus garden by the end of the session.

Decorative Decoupage Diaries 

Tues 6 October AGES 5 - 12

Personalise a journal to suit your interests.

Decoupage is an art style using simple paper and glue to create truly unique pieces that will make this journal one of a kind. This is a simple craft that can have a very effective result. We will have all kinds of paper and materials for the participants choose from to suit them.

Each participant will receive an A5 spiral journal to keep.

Paper Plane Competition

Wed 7 October AGES 6 -12

Fold, decorate and compete!

Combining the art of paper plane folding with the excitement of competition.

Will you design yours for speed, distance, or acrobatics? Will you come out on top? Join us to find out!

Pet Painting Party

Fri 9 October AGE 12+

Bring a printed or digital photo of your favourite pet and learn how to transform it into a colourful canvas portrait.

Participants will explore basic acrylic painting techniques, colour mixing, brushwork, shading, highlights, and texture painting for fur, feathers, or scales. With step-by-step guidance, everyone can create a unique artwork, regardless of experience level.

All art materials, snacks, and music are provided. Please wear old clothes.

By the end of the workshop, each participant will take home their completed pet portrait

All holidays when there is no scheduled programming - All ages with parental supervision

Didn't make it to the Makedo Launch? That's ok! Our Makedo tools and cardboard will be available throughout the holidays! When there is no programming on, the Maker Space will be made available for everyone to drop in and make their own bird to add to our art installation!
