Our new Multipurpose Amenities Facility at Murrumbateman Recreation Ground was officially opened on Saturday, 5 July 2025.

The opening marked a major milestone to provide Murrumbateman and Yass Valley with a modern and accessible facility that will support local events and sporting activity for many years to come.

The facility was formally opened by Mr Bob Nanva MLC, Government Spokesperson for Goulburn, alongside alongside Wendy Tuckerman MP, Member for Goulburn; Jasmin Jones, Yass Valley Mayor; and Brent Lello, President Murrumbateman Eagles.

The project was made possible through a $1.4 million grant from the NSW Government’s Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund 2022–23, with an additional $700,000 co-contribution from Yass Valley Council. The upgrade also included enhancements to the internal access road and the construction of a new accessible public toilets near the Jones Park rest stop - improvements that have been warmly received by the community.

The ceremony took place during a good-spirited local football match featuring both men's and women's teams from the Yass Roos, Murrumbateman Eagles, Batemans Bay Seahawks and Moruya Black Swans. The atmosphere was competitive with a strong community turnout – and plenty of very positive comments about the much-improved changing facilities!

Jasmin Jones, Mayor of Yass Valley said: “The improved facilities at the Rec Ground has not only improved services for the local community, but have elevated our sporting facilities to such a standard that we have attracted interest from regional competitions to come and play in the Yass Valley.

“The NSW AFL Masters chose Murrumbateman for their regional competition in April. This brought over 250 people into the local area who spent their money in our cafes and accommodation, proving the collective investment in these facilities is already bringing positive returns to the local economy.”

“This project really has been a team effort - thank you everyone who made this happen”.
