Mowing Update - Parks & Gardens Welcome New Mowers
Published on 28 November 2025
Yass Valley Council’s mowing program has received a welcome boost this summer with the addition of three new John Deere ‘out front’ mowers to the fleet. The new mowers replace our aged mowing equipment and are a welcome upgrade for our hardworking Parks and Gardens team.
Mowing Schedule
Council is aware that many villages, verges and recreation areas require mowing, and the new mowers will greatly assist in addressing the backlog. The Parks and Gardens team have a list of high-priority areas to cover first, including cemeteries and high-use public recreation areas.
Walker Park, Coronation Park, Banjo Park and the Riverbank Park playgrounds have all recently been mowed. The team have been whipper-snipping at Yass Old Cemetery, the Don Bailey boat ramp, and continue to respond to tree damage following the recent strong winds.
In Sutton, Bob Collis Reserve has been mowed ahead of this weekend’s Sutton Pony Club event, along with the Sutton Recreation Ground and playground.
Over the next few weeks, the Parks & Gardens team will focus on:
- Victoria Park, Joe O’Connor Park and Walker Park in preparation for the upcoming cricket matches, Rugby League Gala Day and Touch Football
- Village cemeteries in Binalong and Bookham
- Main public recreation areas including Coronation Park, Riverbank Park, Banjo Park, Yass Lawn Cemetery, and sporting fields.
- Village mowing, including the entrances to towns and villages, will continue once the appropriate equipment becomes re-available to mow the verges.
Council thanks the community for bringing areas that require mowing to our attention. We appreciate your patience as we get the new mowers up and running and manage staff leave/absences. The mowing team has a full schedule of high-priority sites, and these will be mowed over the coming weeks.
