Wee Jasper gives their community feedback at the last IP&R event
Published on 11 June 2025
A big thank you to everyone who has contributed to the IP&R feedback so far!
Council executive staff, Mayor Jones, and Councillors have completed the Autumn 2025 series of community roadshows with a visit to Wee Jasper, one of the smallest - but very popular - Yass Valley communities.
Presentations have been given to local communities across the Yass Valley to share Council’s plans for the next four years - and thank you to everyone who has attended our 2025 community consultation evenings so far. These sessions have been a great opportunity to share your thoughts, hear what’s planned for the future of the Yass Valley, and ask questions directly of the Council Executive Team.
Great turnout at Wee Jasper
A big thank you to the Wee Jasper community, who turned out in force for our final IP&R Roadshow for this month. The event was a great success, with residents asking insightful questions about community priorities, finances, and the role of grants in Council’s budget, as well as about the everyday business of Council - from mowing and the waste transfer station to safety lighting.
We weren’t able to capture a word cloud for Wee Jasper (as per the other villages), so here are the key concerns raised by the community:
- The impact of the proposed nearby wind turbines and their potential impact on the village and local fire-fighting capacity, with potential knock-on effects for the ACT.
- The telecommunications black spot - especially problematic when the population swells from around 89 to as many as 3,500 people during holiday periods.
- Interest in limited subdivision to help sustain the local school by attracting more families to settle in Wee Jasper.
- Other issues included power, energy, and water planning, and the importance of early notification of grant opportunities.
Given Wee Jasper’s unique ‘tromboning’ population - where numbers surge and contract seasonally - and the region’s crucial role in tourism and economic development, the feedback also highlighted the need for a strategic plan tailored to the village’s specific needs and opportunities.
Once again, thank you to everyone who participated and shared their concerns and ideas. Your input is invaluable in shaping a sustainable and vibrant future for all the towns and villages across the Yass Valley.
Final chance to have your say!
