Yass Valley Council and Essential Energy are undertaking essential work to protect our power network and support the long-term management of our street trees.
As part of a broader strategy to ensure that only appropriate vegetation is planted near power infrastructure, Council has been working closely with Essential Energy to identify incompatible trees and to strategically develop and implement an agreed program for their staged removal and replacement. This work ensures that only suitable vegetation is planted under powerlines.
Following this assessment, three mature trees in Rossi Street, Yass, - two London Plane trees and one White Cedar - have been identified for removal and replacement. While these trees are valued elements of the Rossi Street landscape, they have unfortunately been deemed unsuitable for long-term management in their current location.
Where possible, Council has consulted directly with affected residents and appreciates the in-principle support received for this necessary work.
Tree removal is scheduled for the week commencing Monday, 19 May 2025, weather permitting.
Council is developing a replacement tree program as part of the broader Tree Management Strategy. This includes a carefully considered list of preferred species and a replanting program, with Rossi Street identified as a priority area.
