Control of Priority Weeds
Weeds within the Yass Valley Local Government Area have the potential to pose a serious threat to our natural environment, farming productivity and the health of the community.
Land owners or occupiers of land are required under the Biosecurity Act 2015 to carry out their General Biosecurity Duty (GBD) by control of any Priority Weeds (previously called Noxious Weeds) which may be present on their property.
The list of Priority Weeds and the actions required to comply with the GBD can be found in the South East Regional Strategic Weed Management Plan.
Council has weed management obligations as a Local Control Authority under the Biosecurity Act 2015. This includes a schedule of inspections of private and public land and high risk pathways such as roads and railways.
Council is currently in the process of changing the delivery of our weed management service from being delivered by a contracted external organisation (originally Southern Slopes Noxious Plants Authority, then Hilltops Council), to a service delivered in-house. If you have concerns about priority weeds in your area, please contact Council on 02 6226 1477 or Council@yass.nsw.gov.au
