The role of Local Government

Local government has statutory responsibilities for public health protection under the Public Health Act 2010 and Food Act 2003 by regulating environmental health premises and food businesses.

Various public health inspections are carried out by Council’s Environmental Health Officers on a regular basis to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and to assist in the prevention of illness and communicable disease.
