WENDY TUCKERMAN: Grassroots sport to benefit from recovery package

Grassroots sporting organisations across the Goulburn electorate are set to benefit from a $27.3 million Community Sport Recovery Package announced by the NSW Government.

The announcement comes in addition to a return to community sport competitions, full training and contact activities from 1 July 2020, in line with advice from health officials.

The recovery package will directly assist local grassroots sporting organisations, State Sporting Organisations and Regional Academies of Sport. This funding is in addition to the $35 million grants programs scheduled for 2020/21 and $127 million already committed towards the Active Kids program in 2020/21.

Member for Goulburn, Wendy Tuckerman said this funding will provide a shot in the arm for local sporting organisations that had been doing it tough in COVID-19.

“Sport is part of the fabric of our region, providing local participants and volunteers a sense of identity and connection to community,” Mrs Tuckerman said.

“The postponement and cancellation of local competitions and activities has placed a significant financial and emotional strain on the organisations and individuals involved.

“The Community Sport Recovery Package will help local clubs and associations survive the crisis and come back stronger than ever, so that the thousands of residents involved in sport can get back to the
activities they love.”

Acting Minister for Sport Geoff Lee said the recovery package was not just about helping sports survive but also stimulating the local economy.

“The fast-tracked grants will help support community sport organisations return to activities and contribute to the economies of local communities across NSW.”

Further information about the Community Sport Recovery Package will be communicated to the sector in the coming weeks and detailed HERE
