Coronavirus (COVID-19) update - 24 March 2020
Tuesday, 24 March 2020
There is a high likelihood that Council will stop cash transactions next week in response to this rapidly evolving health crisis. We ask that all members of our community assist us in minimising the risk of infection by conducting their business on-line or by card if attending Council offices.
The Yass Valley Council Executive Management Team briefed Councillors last night on Council’s response to the COVID-19 situation.
Yass Valley Library will close to the public at 5.30pm on Friday, 27 March 2020. The Library will be closed Monday and Tuesday to allow our staff to transition to a new, innovative way of keeping the service available to the community.
This will be a Click and Collect model, where patrons can order their books online or over the phone and staff will prepare them for collection. Upon return, the books will be quarantined for the required amount of days before being returned to the shelves for borrowing. Further details to come.
Murrumbateman Library is now closed (but still accepting returns) and the Mobile Library is not operating until further notice.
Yass and Binalong Pools will close on Friday, 27 March 2020 at 6.30pm. This aligns with the end of our regular swimming season.
Customer Service and the Visitor’s Information Centre will remain open for as long as possible but we encourage people to make alternate arrangements – online, via email or over the phone - rather than visiting in person. If you need to visit, we ask that you practice social distancing, good hygiene practices and avoid using cash for payments. It is likely that Council will stop accepting cash as the situation escalates.
For Council meetings, the public is encouraged to watch the live streaming on YouTube rather than attend. The Council Chambers only has a capacity fir 14 people and this cannot be exceeded under current health guidelines. Alternate dial in arrangements are being organised for those residents wishing to address Councillors in the Open Forum.
We have CANCELLED all Roadshow Community Meetings scheduled for April and May. We will still deliver the 2020/21 Operational Plan to our community but it will be in an alternate online format. We will provide more information on this method when it becomes available.
The situation is constantly changing and Council will aim to provide the community with regular updates.
