Sutton Community celebrates official opening of new amenities building

The Sutton Amenities building was officially opened on Saturday, 7 September by Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman and Deputy Mayor, Nathan Furry.

Sutton is the second of three amenities buildings to be opened under the $1.65m Yass Valley LGA Facilities Upgrade Program, which was funded under the NSW Government's Stronger Country Communities Fund.

Deputy Mayor Nathan Furry, says the new amenities building will benefit all residents and visitors who use it.

“This project would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the NSW Government sharing our vision and understanding the importance of these facilities in our villages and we cannot thank them enough,” Cr Furry said.

“We know that sport and social activities play a big part in the lives of Sutton residents and it helps to bring the community together so I’m extremely proud to be here today to officially open a facility that I know will have such a positive impact on all who use it.”

Mrs Tuckerman said she was pleased to open the new facilities and that she can see the many benefits they will provide for Sutton residents and the village visitors.

“The Stronger Country Communities fund is a significant investment which aims to improve facilities across Yass Valley. I’m delighted to see this project completed and ready for use,” Mrs Tuckerman said.

The official opening coincided with the 100th anniversary celebrations of the Village Hall situated next to the brand new amenities building, with the Sutton Community participating in a day of activities to mark both occasions.

"The Sutton community is very excited to be able to utilise the new amenities building for all our sporting and social events. The clean and accessible facilities will provide sport and recreation opportunities for all our residents and visitors," said Alison Walker, President of the Sutton and District Community Association.

“We would like to thank the NSW Government and Yass Valley Council for the investment in our village and we know the facilities will be used for many years to come.”

The construction of the third and final amenities building in Gundaroo will take place in the 2019/2020 financial year, with the finalisation of plans currently underway.
