Fire near Binalong

Wednesday, 14th February 2018 - 16:00

A fire has ignited on Bobbara Hill (Hilltops Council) and has moved into Yass Valley, approximately 2km north-west of Binalong. The village of Binalong is currently not in immediate danger.

Personnel and aircraft are on the scene containing the fire, with additional crews on standby.

Big tick for Valley parks strengthens economic development

Yass Valley has five operating caravan parks with each one providing a positive economic boost for tourism investment. Over the last 12 months Council’s Environmental Health Officers have worked closely with all operators to ensure they adhere to relevant regulations and that all parks will operate in a safe manner for the many users who enjoy them each year.

2017 crash statistics on the Barton Highway are proving that the majority of crashes are preventable if drivers would heed warnings about taking breaks, slowing down and driving to road conditions. In the first half of 2017 approximately 82% of crashes on the Highway were single vehicle crashes, all crashes were in dry conditions and approximately 67% on straight stretches of the road.

Public Notice: Footpath and parking on Meehan Street

The footpath and car parking alongside the Yass Newsagency on Meehan Street will be CLOSED for the foreseeable future due to emergency repairs that need to occur to the Newsgency building. Structural engineers, builders and Council staff will continue to re-asses the situation and provide clarification about future works that will need to occur.
