Yass Valley Council is pleased to announce a vibrant new public art project underway at Coronation Park, delivered in partnership with Southern Tablelands Arts (STA). The initiative, The Voice of Youth – Coronation Park Picnic Table Artwork, aims to refresh the much-loved picnic tables and seating area with colourful new murals inspired by local young people.

As part of the project, Southern Tablelands Arts, together with Tyger Gallery, recently hosted a creative workshop led by artist local Sara Phemister. Youth participants from across Yass Valley produced a series of imaginative and energetic designs using paint markers on canvas. These artworks will now act as inspiration for emerging artist Calvin Morgan, who has been commissioned to repaint the concrete picnic tables and seats near the Yass Valley Information Centre.

Calvin’s final designs will become part of the PAINT THE TOWN Street Art Tour, replacing the weathered remnants of earlier tabletop artworks and bringing renewed creativity and character to Coronation Park. The refreshed murals are scheduled for completion before the Christmas school holidays, ensuring the community and visitors can enjoy the upgraded space over summer.

Yass Valley Council is proud to support this project with Southern Tablelands Arts, which celebrates youth creativity while enhancing one of the region’s most popular public parks and looks forward to delivering these exciting new artworks for the community.
