Library Chit Chat - 15 June 2009

Last modified: June 15, 2009 - 10:57 AM

Back by Popular Demand…Our Mocktail Party

National Drug Action Week kicks off from 21-27 June and Yass Library is shining the spotlight on important drug and alcohol issues with a competition, onsite promotions and a Mocktail Party.

Drug Action Week is an initiative of the Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia (ADCA) providing individuals, organisations, and communities with the opportunity to initiate and coordinate activities that promote awareness of alcohol and other drugs.

The focus in 2009 for Drug Action Week is the theme message – ‘Alcohol is a drug– TOO!’

The aim is to increase awareness about the harm caused by the misuse of alcohol and other drugs – with a focus on alcohol-related matters.

Alcohol is the most commonly used drug in Australia and its misuse continues to cause significant harm and enormous cost to the community.

At Yass Library we are having a ‘Mocktail Party’ on Thursday 25th June from 5pm to 6pm. Mocktails are non-alcoholic drinks and everyone aged 13 and over are invited to the Library to try some.

Win a USB Wristband (1 GB)

Do you want to win a USB wristband? It’s easy – all you have to do is answer our ‘drug info @ your library’ quiz questions. The competition is designed to promote the free community website www.druginfo.sl.nsw.gov.au and the Library’s collection of drug and alcohol books and pamphlets.

Running until the end of June, all correct entries will go in the draw to win a 1GB USB wristband (like a Memory Stick – but shaped like a wristband!). Entry forms are available at the Library and answers can be discovered on the website www.druginfo.sl.nsw.gov.au or using the collection of pamphlets available at the Library. The completed quiz should be handed back to Library staff. The

drug info @ your library website is a free community resource offering 24/7 access to valuable information for the community with sections tailored for young people, parents and carers, and educators.

The service is supported by a collection of drug and alcohol books and pamphlets available in the Yass and Murrumbateman Libraries.

Drug Action Week runs from 21-27 June and is an initiative of the Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia. www.drugactionweek.org.au.

75,000 Loans – Can We Do It?

Library Staff have set the challenge to reach 75,000 loans by the end of June. For those of you wondering where we are up to the tally is now 72,863. We still have 2137 loans to get and 11 days to get them in.

Make sure you come to the Library to stock up on your Winter reading and get us closer to our goal.

Remember, there is a prize for the person that borrows our 75,000th item – will that be you?
