Library Chit Chat - 9 June 2009

75,000 Loans – Can We Do It?

There are certain figures that libraries have to report on each financial year. These include the number of people through the door, how many people use the Internet, the number of borrowers and finally the library’s circulation i.e. how many books have been borrowed.

For the past 2 years Yass Library has been hovering around the 68,500 loan mark with 68,303 loans in 2006/2007 and 68,995 in 2007/2008. We couldn’t quite make 70,000 loans. The other day I looked at how our loans were going for 2008/2009 and was pleasantly surprised – with only a month to go we had reached 69,620 loans. I think I can safely write that we are going to reach 70,000 loans this financial year. Yippee!

Despite being excited about making 70,000 loans, my staff and I decided there would be no challenge in achieving this. So, we have decided that with a month to go we would set the bar higher and aim for 75,000 loans.

To do this we need your help (we can’t borrow all those books on our own). I am asking all of our regular borrowers to take an extra item (or two) when they borrow and if you haven’t visited the Library for a while now is the time.

We will have a prize for the person who borrows our 75,000th item. Will that be you?

Is My Library Membership Current?

Did you know that if you have a library card, but haven’t borrowed anything in the last three years you may not be on our system anymore? If you are not sure whether your membership is current, then come to the Library and have one of our friendly staff check the system.

If you are not a member it is easy to join. Membership is free for those living in the Yass Valley area and is open to all ages.

75,000 loans – can we do it? Of course we can!

Chess Club

A reminder that our first meeting of the Yass Library Chess club will be on this Thursday (11 June) from 6.00 pm to 7.00 pm.  If you are interested in helping to organise this club please contact Michelle on 6226 1305.  Donations of chess sets would be gratefully appreciated and can be left at the Yass Library.
